What You Need To Know About Cool Spring Creek
If you have fished the delayed harvest (DHALO) section of Coolspring you know it is a stream with beautiful flowers in the spring and very good fishing. It is a stream where you may see deer or wild turkey if you are quiet and lucky. It’s a stream that has good access via groomed trails in the DHALO area. What you probably didn’t know is that all of the above positive attributes of a visit to Coolspring are made possible by the graciousness of the Sharpsville Beagle Club sportsmen whose club occupies the east side of the creek and several other landowners. The SBC owns the largest portion of the land that we traipse over to pursue our finny friends. They provided the gated access road from “the big hole” at the lower end of the project up the glory hole area. This road has helped Neshannock TU get materials and equipment into that area of the stream for work days and at stocking time. The Beagle Club, not Neshannock TU, constructed the Bridge on Coolspring. Other landowners have helped maintain the paths.
As you might gather from the paragraph above, we are indebted to the SBC and the other landowners. If you look real hard at the east side of the stream when you are fishing you might see some fencing. The reason for the fence is that the SBC hold field trials through out the year and the fence helps control both the dogs and the rabbits that inhabit their property. Next time you hear the sounds of a beagle on the trail of a rabbit you will know why.
Please understand that we are guests on this land and as such, we are truly indebted to all the landowners. Remember to respect and maintain the land and if you see anyone misusing, abusing, or in any way creating a situation where the landowner would have cause to be upset, please remind those involved that they are guests on this land. Also let us (TU) know (phone #s are in the newsletter and posted in the bulletin board near the SBC bridge) about any negative situations you might discover.
The delayed harvest artificial lures only (DHALO) project on Coolspring was one of the first two such projects begun in Pennsylvania. I know we at Neshannock TU are proud of this fact and have worked hard over the past 20 + years to improve the stream habitat and maintain the area to provide everyone who visits the stream a quality experience. We are sincerely appreciative of the Sharpsville Beagle Club’s support and that of all the landowners over all these years. We, as sportsmen, have to maintain as many friends as possible during these times where the acts of a few could jeopardize the joy and freedoms of many.
