Meeting Minutes – December 15, 2014 Board Meeting

1. Opening Comments – Jeff Kremis / President
Sharpeville Beagle Club (SBC) – Jeff explained the recent changes in the SBC’s board. Chuck Orr will be the new President, and Joe Morris is the Assistant Secretary. Jeff will arrange a meeting with Chuck after the first of the year.
2. Minutes from the November 24, 2014 Mtg. – R. Natoli / Secretary
The section Banquet / Promoting Early Banquet Ticket Sales was revised to say that early ticket purchasers would receive 2 free Bucket Raffle tickets.
Jim Kearney made a motion to accept the revised minutes, Bill Melaro seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
3. Financial Report – Carol Jochman / Treasurer
Monthly Treasurer’s Report – Carol reviewed the report for December.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Stream Improvement – Jeff Kremis
Cool Spring Creek Logging Operations – There is no damage near the Tony Palumbo memorial plaque at the south end of the project. There are still cut trees laying everywhere, and a large tree is laying in the stream at the bend. The Glory Hole area is open and cleared. Some walking bridges will have to be repaired next spring when we schedule work days.
Sharpsville Beagle Club (SBC) – The SBC will hold a Field Trial March 8th and 9th.
North Deer Creek – Brad Stallsmith told Jeff that their Youth Activities will be held again in 2015.
B. Munnell Run Trout Nursery – Bill Stevenson & Ken Tarczy
Trout Stocking – Ken said the Golden Rainbows are 13 to 16 inches in length, and the Browns are about 9 inches long. They are all healthy.
C. Banquet – Nick Loprire & Carol Jochman
Banquet Menu – Carol reported the menu is set and the ticket price will be $35 for singles, and $70 for couples.
Gun Raffle – The gun raffle tickets were passed out to all the board members so they could get a head start on raffle sales; 750 tickets will be sold (numbered 1000 to 1750). The prizes are as follows:
1st – Ruger SR1911 Centerfire Pistol – .45 ACP
2nd – Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard .380 Pistol
3rd – $150 Gun Gift Certificate at Shooters Supplies
4th – $20 Ammo Gift Certificate at Shooters Supplies
5th – Seconds Count Firearms Training Instruction
Wood Carvings – Nick said that he would contact Bob Alino to ask him to bring some carvings for the Verbal Auction.
D. Newsletter – Nick Loprire
Mid-January Issue – Ideas are needed for this issue; send all your thoughts and ideas to Nick. We discussed ways to check the number of “hits” on the WHAT’S NEW / NEWSLETTER icon on the HOME PAGE of our web site. We could record the number of hits the day before it is loaded on the website and then check one week later.

F. Youth Committee – Various – Nothing to report
G. Marcellus Shale – Jim Kearney
Shale Gas Estimates – Jim said the federal government has lowered the estimated amount of shale gas reserves in the United States for the 5th time in the last 3 years.
H. Trout in the Classroom (TIC) – Reg McClelland / Jeff Kremis
Jeff reported that West Middlesex Schools told him everything was progressing along smoothly.
5. Old Business:
Chapter Website – Dick Natoli reported he loaded 4 dozen Environmental Education Day photos in the EVENTS / PHOTO GALLERY section. 12 of those were also loaded on the SLIDES / HOME PAGE section.
o SLIDES / HOME PAGE section – This software has a glitch in it that causes the photos to be “cropped” or chopped off so the whole photo cannot be viewed properly. Dick Natoli explained the problem to his daughter-in-law Eli Natoli (web site programmer) during a visit on December 13th, and Eli promised to figure out what is causing the “cropping” to occur.
Unassessed Waters Initiative – No Report
6. New Business:
Neshannock Chapter Membership Meeting – The meeting will be held Saturday, February 21st in the Pig Barn meeting room at Munnell Run Farm.
Advertising Class – Nick Loprire participated in an advertising class via a telephone conference call. Nick is learning methods to get the message out to TU members and locals about our chapter. He said one method that we should try is to invite the local newspapers to take photos at our spring work days.
7. Next Meeting Date – 6:30 pm on Monday, January 26th at Penn State Shenango Campus conference room in Sharon, Pa
