Detailed Map - Neshannock Creek

Neshannock Creek is a large trout stream that is stock over a distance of 20 miles, from Mercer, where the stream originates at the confluence of Cool Spring and Otter Creeks, downstream to New Castle. Between these two towns, the creek flows through a rural area of rolling hills, woods, farms, and small villages. There is little or no posting along the stream and just about every bridge crossing provides access.

A delayed harvest, artifical lures only stretch on Neshannock Creek, begins at the base of the mill dam in Volant and extends downstream 2.7 mile to the covered bridge on Covered Bridge Road (T476).

This stream has had many stream improvements constructed by this chapter of Trout Unlimited. Besides regular stockings from Fish Commission, the chapter also supplements this stream with fish from their hatchery and the local fly shop, Neshannock Creek Fly Shop, a full service (and I mean full service) shop supplements the stockings each year with trophy size trout that they buy special from shop donations and a portion of their profits.

Caddis hatches provide much of the fly fishing action on Neshannock Creek, and imitations with cream, tan and olive bodies will cover most of these. March Browns are the bes mayfly hatch, and sparser hatches of Grey Foxes, Brown Drakes, and Green Drakes also bring trout to the surface.

In summer time, the lower stretches are fine smallmouth bass and panfish fishery. Definite worth a day of your time with catches for a day being usually 20+ fish.
