Receipts & Disbursements Report Carolreviewed the reports ending March 31st and also ending April 26th. These two reports included a “semi-final” report for the March 20th Banquet, and, also the expenditures for the Children’s Wolf Creek Fishing Derby
The Treasurers Report will be filed for future audit.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Stream Improvement Jeff Kremis
Coolspring Creek Workday Saturday April 10th The weather was great, and about 20 members showed up. They reinforced the footbridge at the bottom of the hill from the main parking lot, cleared brush along the main trail, pulled up the walking bridge along the Glory Hole, and cleaned up Scrubgrass and Houston Junction Roads for our part in the Adopt-A-Highway cleanup program.
Next Workday at Coolspring Creek Jeff said October 2nd at 9:00 AM might be the next scheduled workday. We need to mark the north end of the DHALO Project with signs on trees closest to the cable overhanging the stream, and add rock to some of the in-stream deflectors. The large “downed, cabled off” tree lying next to the stream bank north of the big rock area could use some rock piled against the tree trunk. That rock would help to stabilize the tree, and keep it in place.
Deer Creek Children’s Fishing Area Eric Armburger reported they had about 24 kids, 16 yrs and under, at the stream on the first day of their 30-day special activities fishing permits. They may increase the length of the fishing area to 300 feet in the future to provide more room for the kids to maneuver.
Deer Creek Workday On Saturday, August 28th volunteers are needed to install log vein deflectors at the mudsill area of the stream.
Big Run Project Jeff Kremis reported that the work at Big Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 10th at 9:00 AM in the morning.
B. Nursery Pete Anthony & Ken Tarczy
Stocked North Deer Creek with 62 trout at the “Kids 16 & Under” area April 16th
Wolf Creek will be stocked before the April 24th Children’s Fishing Derby
Three more streams will be stocked in May
C. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire
Banquet Carol reviewed a summary comparison of expenditures of the 2010 versus the 2009 Banquets. She added we could save money next year if the number of people commit by purchasing tickets ahead of time. That would give us a more accurate count of committed dinner purchases to the Radisson Hotel.
Quantity of Tickets to be Printed Next Year Nick suggested we get 300 tickets printed next year, and avoid “board member swapping of tickets”. When board members swap tickets because another member runs out, that leads Nick to an inaccurate count.
2011 Banquet Room Reserved Based on the numerous complimentsCarol received during and after the banquet, she gave the Radisson a $500 deposit for next year.
TU Memberships Sold Ken Tarczy reported we sold 8 TU memberships at the Nursery table, and based on inquiries about the TU shirt he wore, Ken suggested we sell polo shirts at next years banquet.
Newsletter The April / May newsletter was mailed out last week, and e-mailed today by Tom Jochman. E-Mailings have increased from 72 in 2008 to 149 members at the present time. We discussed reducing the number of copies in the US Mail even further by dropping people who have not renewed their chapter memberships since 2008.

E. Wolf Creek Fishing Derby
Saturday, April 24th We had 36 children participating, and the Grove City Sportsman’s Club provided lunch. All who attended had a good time, however the trout did not want to take any bait except live minnows. The total cost to the chapter for the event was $324; the three major cost items were the hats provided free to the kids, the Port-A-John rental, and the prizes purchased. One possible improvement for next year’s event is to purchase enough “small” prizes for each child attending; that way no child “would feel left out” at the end of the derby when their names are called for prizes.
F. Trout in the Classroom (TIC) Jeff Kremis
Grant Received Jeff reported that our chapter received a $500 grant for TIC from PATU; our school will be Delahunty Middle School in Hermatige. The PATU TIC awarded 19 Start-Up grants this year. The “teacher training” will be held June 21in Lockhaven, Pa, and the “partner training” will be held June 27th in Belfonte, Pa. Rick Stevens will be the teacher trained for this project.
A motion was made by Jim Mondok to pay for one night’s lodging at the Best Western in Lockhaven, meals, and fuel expense for two people to attend the training session. T. Jochman seconded it, and it passed.
G. Youth Field Day Grove City Sportsman’s Club Dick Natoli
Pete Anthony needs help at the “station” to let kids’ experience fly-casting. Anyone able to help out should contact Pete at 724-662-2271 or gpanthony@msn.com Otherwise we will not be able to participate this year.
5. Old Business:
No Report
6. New Business:
Chapter Website We discussed different ways to provide assistance to our website manager John Siebert. The best solution is to channel changes through one person, that way John knows what to expect, and will have a clear understanding of what is required and the timetable set to get it done. This is what we decided:
Pete Anthony will temporarily act as the “funneling person” to coordinate, collect and report any requests for web site changes to John; a permanent coordinator will be named at a later date.
Nick Loprire will continue to work with John on the Newsletters.
Dick Natoli will continue to send John the Monthly Meeting Minutes.
Election of Officers Reg McClelland’s term expired this year, and he was unanimously voted in for another 3-year term with a new expiration date of 01/31/13)
Coolspring Creek Easement Project Pete Anthony explained that he and Jim Mondok have been working on an easement project for Coolspring Creek; the goal was to preserve fishing rights for years to come. The Pa Fish & Boat Commission surveyed the project area, and agreed to participate. The 4.6 miles of stream between Scrubgrass road and Lake Latonka was divided into 5 sections. The first section from Scrubgrass road to the old railroad bed (the chapter’s DHALO area) needs to be approved by the landowners, and then the other 4 areas could be worked on.
The problem is the Sharpesville Beagle Club owns most of the land in the DHALO area of the stream, and they rejected our request for the easement. As a result of that decision, the project will be dropped.
Scollard Run Project Page 47 on the Fish & Boat Commission’s web site describes a “New Strategic Plan” to establish 15,000 miles of streams as wild trout streams. Pete Anthony proposed that our chapter help to establish Scollard Run as a “wild trout stream”. He will contact Freeman Johns at the Linesville, Pa fish hatchery to find out if Scollard Run is eligible to be considered, and report back to us at the May meeting.
