In Attendance:

C. Jochman, T. Jochman, J. Kremis, N. Loprire, J. Mondok, W. Stevenson, R. McClelland, and R. Natoli

1. Opening Comments –  Jeff Kremis / President
  • Brook Trout License Plates – National TU is offering “front of car” license plates for sale to the chapters at $15 each if we purchase 20 plates.  We can sell them for $20 each for a fundraiser (TU Mail Order web site sells them for $23.50 with shipping costs).

Tom Jochman made a motion to purchase 20 plates, Nick Loprire seconded it, and the motion passed.

  • TU Website / Chapter 216 Officer Listings – The officer listing is incorrect; Jeff Kremis will contact Aaron Monroe to see if he can make the necessary corrections.
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – R. Natoli / Secretary
  • The minutes were approved as written.
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis/Carol Jochman
  • Receipts & Disbursements Report – Carol reviewed the report ending November 1st
  • Newsletter Mailing Costs – Carol and Tom Jochman put together a side-by-side comparison of bulk mailing versus 1st Class postage costs.  Since we now have only 160 Newsletters to mail, they will be sent 1st Class, and the other members will receive them via e-mail.
  • The Treasurers Report will be filed for future audit
4. Committee Reports:

A. Stream Improvement – Jeff Kremis

  • Improvement Project Ideas for 2010 – We discussed 11 ideas for stream improvement submitted by Pete Anthony.  The results of the discussion are contained in a separate report.  For a copy of that report send R. Natoli an e-mail request.
  • Wolf Creek – Jim Mondok explained why stream dredging was kept to a minimum in front of the handicapped deck at the children’s fishing area. It was due to a sanitary sewer pipeline crossing the stream just south of the fishing deck.  Jim said that the DEP permit is “open-ended” in case we need to dredge the area again.

B. Nursery – Bill Stevenson (Pete Anthony & Ken Tarczy absent)

  • Trout Stocking - Bill reported that 200 Brown Trout from our nursery were stocked in the DHALO area of Neshannock Creek on Saturday, November 7th.  The stocking was necessary in order to alleviate crowding (raceway was approaching a density of 75%).  Bill and Ken Tarczy stocked the 9-inch long fish with Pete Anthony observing from a distance (Pete is recovering from Knee surgery).  The next stocking will probably be in early spring.

C. Banquet / Newsletter -  Nick Loprire

  • Banquet Location Map – John Siebert thoughtfully added a location map to the fall edition of our Newsletter since we have a new location for the 2010 banquet.
  • Banquet TV Raffle / Ticket Prices – TV Tickets for 2010 will be $5 each or 3 for $10, and based on last years successful raffle ticket sakes, we will be ordering 600 tickets.
  • Banquet Ticket Colors – Red, Blue, and Green will be requested in order to prevent confusion and ticket mix-ups between the different activities at the banquet.
  • Banquet Prizes – Nick said that recently deceased TU member Chuck Allen bequeathed us a new Orvis CFO123 Reel, and it would make an excellent prize for our bucket raffle.  We also have a Wii game that Carol & Tom purchased for the banquet.
  • Newsletter – Nick is requesting articles for the Winter 2010 edition of the Newsletter.
  • Newsletter Mailing Costs – After a lengthy discussion by the board members, the following action will be taken:
    1. No more bulk mailing permits will be purchased
    2. Look for a lower cost print shop to make copies of the Newsletter (Staples?)
    3. Use 1st class stamps for the 160 people without a known e-mail address
    4. Pete Anthony will telephone the Pa residents from the 160 member listing to find out if they have e-mail addresses, and ask if they would accept the Newsletter in electronic format
    5. Volunteers will apply 1st class stamps and “closure seals”

D. Membership – Tom Jochman

  • No Report

E. Youth Coordinator – Nobody Assigned

  • No Report
5. Old Business:
  • Nothing Significant
6. New Business:
  • Chapter Objectives – Reg McClelland recommended the chapter focus on water quality in 2010.  Jim Mondok suggested we could write a mini-grant to obtain funds for “water quality measuring kits”.  The kits would include tests such as PH value and presence of chemicals in the stream.
