- TU Fall Meeting Jeff and Reg McClelland attended the Pa TU fall meeting October 3rd and 4th held in Bellefontaine, Pa near Spring Creek. They said about 50 to 60 TU members were in attendance, and the main topic of discussion was ground water contamination due to the gas well fracturing process. Dunkard Creek in Pa had a 37-mile long fish kill as a result of water contamination. They mentioned fundraiser items for sale by Pa TU, which include “Brook Trout License Plates” and “Fly Boxes”. Pa TU also discussed getting members involved with chapter projects through the use of the form PRIORITIZING ISSUES OR PROGRAMS from the Institute for Conservation Leadership. The form was scanned as a separate page entitled "091102_Addendum to 2009-10-26 Meeting Minutes."

A. Stream Improvement Jeff Kremis
- Coolspring Creek Walking Bridge Repairs Jeff evaluated the condition of the footbridge at the bottom of the hill from the main parking lot. He reported it could be fixed easily without any major costs or effort. He also reported a large Sycamore tree is down and should be tied off to take advantage of possible development of “fish cover”.
- Deer Creek Eric Armburger reported they will take out a 30-day Special Activities Permit with the Pa Fish Commission for the Children’s Fishing Area to be located on the Stallsmith Property. They are currently discussing ways to mark the beginning and end of the stream to be used for that activity. The Deer Creek Consortium will have an entry in the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest to be held at the Fire Station in Cochranton.
- Deer Creek Meeting Eric said that their next meeting would be on Saturday, March 20th at the French Creek Administration Building.
- Wolf Creek Jeffrey Giardina, WCO for Mercer County, reported that the contractor completed the stream dredging in front of the handicapped deck in the children’s fishing area on Wolf Creek. Jeff originally had requested they start at the end of the stream deflectors, and continue past the deck to the trees/brush pile lying in the stream, but they only did a short distance fore and aft of the handicapped deck. However, Jeff feels that it will be good enough for us to hold a Children’s Fishing Derby next April.
B. Nursery Pete Anthony & Ken Tarczy
- Pete Anthony is recovering from Knee replacement surgery done on September 29th. All of the Board Members wish Pete a speedy recovery.
C. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire
- Ticket Prices for 2010 Ticket prices will be advertised in the Newsletter per Nick.
- TV Raffle Carol found a good deal on a TV at Wal-Mart, all agreed to buy it.
- Bamboo Fly Rod for 2010 Banquet Nick received e-mail from Chris Lantzy confirming he will make us a rod for the next banquet. Chris asked what inscription we wanted on the barrel of the rod; Nick will send him an answer.
D. Membership Tom Jochman
- Chapter Member List - Tom passed out copies of Chapter 216 Member Lists broken down in 12 different categories. Tom reviewed the lists and the board members were asked which “inactive people” should continue to receive Newsletters. There are 184 people who have e-mail addresses and can be sent copies of our Newsletters electronically, and 102 people who need to get copies through the US Postal Service.
E. Youth Coordinator Nobody Assigned
- Reg McClelland said he talked with past board member and Youth Coordinator Dick Rickert. Dick indicated that his personal situation has improved significantly, and he is interested in getting back to helping us. That is good news!
