In Attendance:

N. Loprire, W. Fay, P. Anthony, J. Kremis, A. Monroe, R. Natoli, and R. McClelland

1. Opening Comments – Aaron Monroe
  • Fly Fishing Camp - Aaron received a note from Zachary Livengood stating that Zach did not finish the Fly Fishing Camp; Pete suggested contacting Zach’s Grandfather to find out why.
  • Oct 11th PA Trout Mtg. – Jeff Kremis cannot go; it is possible that Aaron and Pete will attend
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – Dick Natoli
  • Minutes were approved as read
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis
  • Jeff reported that he needs a second Board Member to be assigned to our FNB Savings Account so that he can make a withdrawal to fund our Checking Account. Reg McClelland volunteered to be that 2nd person registered on the account.
  • Jeff gave the Treasurer’s reports for the periods ending July 31 (he was absent from our August Board mtg.), and August 31.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Watershed Coordinator – Jeff Kremis/Jim Mondok
  • Nothing new other than Wolf Creek Project – See the comments below

B. Nursery – Pete Anthony/Jim Rafferty

  • Pete said the Nursery only lost 4 fish so far this year
  • They have some extra Golden Rainbow Trout, and they are growing much faster than the Browns, so they will stock 25 of the largest ones in Wolf Creek this week.
  • The Browns are growing much slower than the Rainbows we had last year so the February stocking may have to be cancelled, and the March stocking will be done later in the month.
  • Equipment Repairs needed – Our Weed Wacker has a cutting string release problem, and Nick Loprire will see if he can fix it. Our gasoline powered generator will be taken to a serviceman to repair the next time Tom Jockman has his pickup truck in Mercer.
  • Pete said that the Volant Fly Shop donated a 110 gallon aquarium for use at the Nursery.
  • Pete has ten 18 “ x 24” wildlife posters that need to be framed and used at our March Banquet – Dick Natoli will follow up on that.

C. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire

  • March 24th was selected as the 2004 Banquet date; it will be held at the Hickory VFW
  • The Cabin Fever Symposium will be held in February again; Dick Natoli will coordinate along with Nick’s help – the date will be the last Saturday in January or early February (Dick to call the Hickory VFW and make a reservation).

D. Membership – Tom Jochman – No Report – Tom was absent

E. Youth Coordinator – Jim Rafferty – Pete Anthony reported in Jim’s absence

  • Pete loaned one of our six Fly Rod Kits to Cheryl Courtney who is going out West to do volunteer work with a Presbyterian Church Mission Group. Cheryl will use the Fly Rod to learn how to Fly Fish as a recreational outlet.

F. Wolf Creek Project – Dick Natoli / Jeff Kremis / Joe Morris

  • Dick reported that the project to build the 5 deflectors is complete, and Joe Morris, Jim Tidd, and Dick are in the process of writing Thank You letters for the 11 organizations that donated their time, material, or equipment to help make the project a success.
  • The actual work start date of the project was Thursday, August 21st with the deflector logs on site. We picked up the Hemlock boards for the “fish shelter” portion of the deflectors Thursday afternoon, and cut the deflector framing logs to the correct dimension Thursday evening.
  • On Friday, starting at 7:00 AM, we proceeded to build the deflector frames in the water, and fill them with Limestone Rock. Due to the donation of a Grade-All, a Front End Loader, a Large Truck to move the Limestone, and plenty of eager and willing people to labor with us, the 5 deflectors were finished by late afternoon.
  • On Saturday, we raked down the property adjacent to the stream, planted grass seed, and covered it with straw.
  • Pete Anthony made a Video of the various stages of the project, and we plan on showing it at the next Banquet.
  • The next step for the project is for the General Electric Company’s ELFUNS group to construct the Handicapped Access Fishing Platform (Fall, 2003 or Spring, 2004).
5. Old Business:
  • The bulk mailing permit will be changed from Sharon to Mercer in December (Loprire)
  • The Munnell Run Farm August Picnic / Board Meeting cost less than $3.00 per person this year for the food. Next year it was suggested we have it on a Sunday to allow more visiting time for the Board Member’s wives to get to know each other better.
  • Chapter 216 Job’s List – Pete agreed to keep responsibility for items 13, 18, and 20 on our list of tasks; The revised copy of the list is attached here.
6. New Business:
  • Tom Hopkins gave some excellent photographs to Pete Anthony from the May Coolspring Creek fish stocking. Pete will send them to John Siebert for addition to our Chapter Website.
  • It was noted that our link from our website to the PA website does not work properly; we need to fix it.
  • Pete suggested that we give our members more information on our Chapter activities, and it was suggested to post the Board Meeting Minutes every month (Dick will send them to John for posting).
