1. Opening Comments – Aaron Monroe
  • Annual Picnic / Business Mtg. – It is good to be here again at Munnell Run Farm for our annual picnic, and thanks go to Pete Anthony and his committee for organizing and planning this event.
  • Deer Creek Project –Aaron requested the majority of meeting time be restricted to discussing the Deer Creek Project.
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – Aaron Monroe
  • The minutes were approved with a date change for the August Workday.
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis
  • Budget - Jeff e-mailed his budget report for the period ending July 31st.
  • Donation – Jeff received a $25 donation from J. Flanagan, resident of Oakmont, Pa.  Jeff will put the money in our chapter’s stream improvement fund.
  • Games of Chance License – Our chapter license needs to be renewed, and all agreed to have Jeff take care of it.
4. Committee Reports:

A. Watershed Coordinator – Jeff Kremis/Jim Mondok

  • Deer Creek Consortium – Jerry Przybylek from Cochranton, Pa is the chairman of the consortium.  They have approximately ten committee members who are planning modifications to Deer Creek; the purpose of the project is to protect the stream banks from erosion, and also to improve fish habitat.
  • Pa Fish & Boat Commission’s Involvement Jerry asked for help from the Pa Fish & Boat Commission to design the stream improvements, and they responded with a report written by David Keller, Area Habitat Manager for the Bureau of Fisheries.  The report details the plans to create five Multi-Log veins, and one 60 foot long Modified Mud-Sill in the stream.
  • Neshannock Chapter’s Involvement – Pete Anthony and Jeff Kremis have been interfacing with Jerry Przybylek on ways that our chapter can assist with the project.  One issue that came up is the Deer Creek area landowners were concerned with liability should someone get injured during the construction of the stream improvements.  Since several of Jerry’s committee members already are Trout Unlimited (TU) members, Jeff suggested that they make it an “official” TU project with the support of our Neshannock Chapter.
  • Discussion / Motion to Support the Deer Creek Stream Improvements – We discussed ways to support Jerry and his committee, and that discussion resulted in the following motions:
    1. Jim Mondok – Motion to adopt the Deer Creek Stream Improvements as a Neshannock Chapter Project.  Reg McClelland seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion passed.
    2. Tom Jochman – Motion to amend the first motion to include a review of project status by Jerry Przybylek within a sixty days after the project starts.    Reg McClelland seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion passed.

B. Nursery – Pete Anthony

  • No Report

C. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire

  • 2009 Banquet Dates & Location – Possible dates for next years banquet would be March 28th or April 4th.  Nick suggested we use the same location and “fine tune” the arrangements such as the prices for bar items.  We also need to discuss food quantities, with the owners.  Jim Mondok suggested we look into the costs charged at the recently remodeled Avalon Country Club located near Buhl Park.
  • Chapter Newsletter – Jeff Kremis discussed the need to revise newsletter-mailing labels to avoid the possibility of returns because of an “incorrect” or “no longer valid” address.  If we add the words “or current resident” to the label, that will keep the newsletters from being sent back.  All agreed to have Jeff make those changes.

D. Membership – Tom Jochman

  • No Report

E. Youth Coordinator – Dick Rickert

  • Allenberry Youth Fly Fishing Camp – Kyle Petty was the youth we sponsored for the event.  Kyle told Dick that he had a great time, and he will come to our September meeting and give us a report on his activities while at camp.
  • Donated Gifts – Dick mentioned he has some donated items that could be used for next years banquet.  Carol Jochman also has items given to her by our National TU Marketing Director who attended the spring banquet.
5. Old Business:
  • Nothing discussed
6. New Business:
  • Stoneboro Fair – Jim Williams suggested we put more effort into recruiting youth who attend the fair into our TU Chapter; we normally put up a display but the booth is not “manned”.  A discussion was had, but no suggestions were adopted.
  • Recognition of Longtime Chapter Member Charles Rohr – Pete Anthony suggested we come up a good way to recognize Charles who will be 95 years old in September.  Among his many contributions to the chapter, he worked tirelessly with the group who built Munnell Run Nursery.  We discussed photographs, and, or, plaques that could be permanently hung in the nursery; but nothing was finalized.  Your ideas should be sent to Pete who will coordinate the final plans.
