K. Tarczy, J. Kremis, R. Natoli, N. Loprire, J. Mondok, T. Jochman Guests: Carole Jochman

1. Opening Comments – Aaron Monroe
  • Meeting Dates for 2007 – January 8th date needs to be changed; that is the same day as the NCAA Football Championship game. We also discussed changing the date for the April 7th Workday because that is Easter weekend. The date for the Wolf Creek Fishing Derby needs to be added as April 21st.
  • January Membership Meeting – Our meeting date will be January 29th with the business portion from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, and the Membership portion from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Nick is looking for a guest speaker for that event.
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – Aaron Monroe
  • Minutes were approved as written
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis
  • Budget Report – Jeff reviewed the budget report ending November 30th 2006
  • The budget report will be filed for future audit
  • Budget Guidelines for 2007 – Jeff also reviewed a guideline that should help us stay in the “black” financially for the year 2007.
  • Fox Run Project – Jim Mondok reported that the project will be funded through a grant, and they will not need our help. The money that we forecasted to use on Fox Run might now be used somewhere else.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Watershed Coordinator – Jeff Kremis/Jim Mondok
  • Fall Workday – We need to schedule a fall workday when the Cool Spring Creek water level is low. If the water is low, we would be able to repair the damage to the spring inlet area upstream from the Crossover Hole. We need to lay down plastic screen on the bed of the inlet stream, and then cover it over with rock. A small backhoe unit will be needed to prepare the inlet bottom.

B. Nursery – Pete Anthony

  • New Aerator – Ken Tarczy reported the new Aerator Motor came in and has been installed at the Nursery raceway.
  • Rod Raffle – Ken suggested we have a raffle to raise money for the nursery. Nick Loprire suggested the “Scale the Trout” game could also be used for that purpose. At the Banquet, we could locate it between the Nursery display and the Bucket Raffle.

C. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire

  • Banquet – Discuss at the next three board meetings
  • Newsletter Mailings – Carole Jochman reported that she made an extra set of labels for the next mailing.
  • “Reverse Raffle” Proposal - Tom and Carole Jochman explained how we could run a “Reverse Raffle” next fall as a fundraiser. Their proposal was based on the one that Youngstown State University (YSU) runs every year. YSU alumni members sell 150 tickets at $100.00 each to fund the raffle; they have been doing this for 12 years. The $15,000 total revenue goes towards paying for an open bar, dinner, raffle prizes, and profit.

  • Schedule:
    • 6:00 PM – Open Bar
    • 6:00 to 7:30 PM – Dinner Buffet
    • 7:30 PM – Raffle Begins
    • 9:00 PM - Raffle Complete
  • Silent Auction – 15 to 20 Silent Auction items (Fishing, Sports, Auto)
  • Verbal Auction – 5 Verbal Auction Items
  • Location – YSU holds their raffle at the Shenango Valley Civic Center
  • Planning & Lead-time – Tom and Carole said that 6 months time would be needed to properly organize and plan an event like the one held at YSU. The board made no decision; more board members need to be involved before a decision can be made.
