A. Watershed Coordinator Jeff Kremis/Jim Mondok
- Results from Oct 7th workday. Only six people showed up for the TU workday on Oct. 7th and all of these were board members. Work was completed on the rock deflectors in the “Glory Hole” area, wooden walkway repair, and walking path re-direction at the “Crossover Hole” area. It was suggested that we have a special mailing prior to the workdays to attempt to solicit more participants in the work days.
- 4 wheeler damage Letters w/ Signs to landowners. There was no feedback from landowners or others relative to the signs to be posted in the Cool Springs area about motorized vehicle restrictions. Aaron will make two dozen signs and mount in the affected areas with the help of Pete Anthony.
B. Nursery Pete Anthony
- Pete reported (through e-mail) That WCO Joe Morris informed him that stocking the lower section of Slippery Rock Creek would not be possible as thought earlier. Due to this change in plans there is an excess of approximately 200 8” brown trout that must be stocked prior to the cold weather. Pete asked for suggestions on where would be a good location for this stocking. The board had the following thoughts and suggestions:
- Neshannock Cr. (Covered Bridge area)
- Oil Creek ( Contact Oil Creek Chapter for area)
- Big Sandy (South of Ray Milton bridge)
C. Cabin Fever - Dick Natoli
- In place of the Cabin Fever event a membership meeting will be held on a weekday prior to a board meeting. The membership meeting will be approximately one hour in length and have a demonstration or talk related to fly fishing. All members will be invited and voting on new officers will be included. After the membership meeting the regular board meeting will be held. The first membership meeting will be held on January 29th and start at 6:00 P.M. The success of this format will be evaluated and plans for regular quarterly membership meetings will be discussed.
D. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire
- Nick suggested that everyone send him a sample e-mail so that everyone’s current e-mail address can be documented. Nick will forward the list to Tom for publication.
E. Membership Tom Jochman
E. Youth Coordinator Dick Rickert
- Dick e-mail responses
- Slippery Rock students this spring? As to projects for the students of Paulette Johnson at Slippery Rock the following suggestions were made:
- A rigorous macro-invertebrate and water quality study of the entire Cool Springs project from Lake Latonka to the bridge at Scrub Grass. This would include tributaries (i.e. Yellow Creek, Mill Run, etc).
- A study of Neshannock Creek in the area by Iron Bridge Restaurant and compare those result to the Cool Spring study.
- Man made stream structure project to develop habitat.
- State grant application? Not discussed
- Fly fishing club @ Slippery Rock? Offer assistance as to expertise and advice relative to fly tying, casting, reading water, etc. Try to encourage interface with program at Penn State which has a well established university based program.
