In Attendance:

J. Mondok, J. Kremis, R. Natoli, R. Riechart, R. Shuey, and P. Anthony

1. Opening Comments – Aaron Monroe
  • Aaron Monroe was absent / Jeff Kremis ran the meeting
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – Dick Natoli
  • Minutes were accepted as written
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis
  • Budget Report – Jeff reviewed the budget Report ending May 31st 2006
4. Committee Reports:
A. Watershed Coordinator – Jeff Kremis/Jim Mondok
  • Wolf Creek Rock – Jeff discussed the need for large rock to be placed in Wolf Creek. He said 3 or 4 rocks may do the job, approximately one for each deflector in the stream. The size should be about 3 feet in diameter to provide enough weight (stability to stay in place during a storm). Both Joe Morris (Lawrence County WCO), and Vance Oaks (Grove City Borough Manager) want to be involved in this effort.
  • Replacement of Deflector “fill rock” – Jeff will get in touch with the coordinator at George Jr. Republic school to ask for help from the students there. We need to replenish the fill rock in the five deflectors in Wolf Creek to keep them stabilized.
  • 4-Wheeler Damage to Cool Spring Trails – We discussed putting up some sort of signs to “raise the awareness level” of 4-Wheeler vehicle operators. Jeff Kremis talked with landowner Larry Peters about this. Pete Anthony talked with landowners Dick Mills, and Kathryn Vogan. We need to discuss the issue further and obtain input from other landowners before deciding what action to take.
  • Fall Workday – We picked Saturday, October 7th for the next workday; activities include work on the Glory Hole stream deflector, and a Macro-Invertebrate Study.

B. Nursery – Pete Anthony

  • Munnell Run Nursery Trout – 2000 Brown Trout were received on June 26th for the 2005 / 2006 period. Pete said they look great, about 4 inches in length, and the Oswayo personnel are doing an excellent job raising the brownies to fingerling size.
  • Nursery Repairs – The exterior of the building will be painted this year, and new windows will be installed if the Fish Commission approves the grant request for the windows, and a backup aerator.
  • Escalating Gasoline Costs – Dick Natoli brought up the fact that gasoline costs are very high and Nursery personnel that use their personal vehicles to transport fish to places like Little Sandy, and Deer Creek are spending a lot of cash out of their own pockets.
  • Dick Natoli made a motion that the Neshannock Chapter reimburses the nursery personnel the cost per mile based on the Federal Income Tax Rate. Bob Shuey seconded the motion, and it passed.

C. Cabin Fever - Dick Natoli

  • Tabled until the September meeting

D. Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire

  • No Report

E. Membership – Tom Jochman

  • TU Membership Applications – Bob Shuey said he would like to have a dozen TU Membership Applications dropped off or mailed to his fly shop in Volant. Action for Tom Jochman.

E. Youth Coordinator – Dick Rickert

  • Wolf Creek Fishing Derby – Dick said we should consider a different date for the derby. The weekend after “Opening Day of Trout Season” could be bad due to “Youth Turkey Hunting Day” and the “Opening Day of Adult Turkey Season”. “Earth Day” may also pose a conflict.
  • Financial Support – Dick had some good news; financial support will be coming from Armstrong Cable for the 2007 fishing derby.
  • New Name – We should consider renaming the derby “Wolf Creek Trout Fishing Derby”
5. Old Business:
  • Nothing important to discuss
6. New Business:
  • Munnell Run Farm Activities – Jim Mondok reminded the board that Munnell Run Farm has quite a few activities coming up in the near future:

    2. Victorian Weekend – Sunday, July 16th
    3. Drive-it-Yourself-Tour – This Summer – Includes various points of interest in the Mercer County area such as “Historic Houses” and various stops that are inside the Munnell Run Farm grounds.
    4. Munnell Run Farm Day – Sunday, September 17th
