In Attendance:

A. Monroe, N. Loprire, B. Fay, J. Mondok, B. Hanselman, D. Rickert

1. Opening Comments – Aaron Monroe
  • “Chapter Project” – Aaron reviewed the chapter’s need for another project that we can undertake. One example would be constructing a wetland adjacent the Fox Run Stream that would solve the acid mine drainage problem there. Fox Run crosses Route 62 about 3 miles past Jackson Center. Aaron asked for ideas from board members for the next project.
2. Minutes from Last Meeting – Dick Natoli
  • The minutes for the March 8th board meeting were accepted as read.
3. Treasurer’s Report – Jeff Kremis
  • In Jeff’s absence, Aaron reviewed the budget report for the month ending March 31st.
  • Check for 2A Limestone used at the Neshannock Creek access road and parking lot – Aaron will ask Jeff to issue a new check because it was filled out improperly and bank rules will not allow a check to be modified by writing over it.
4. Committee Reports:
A. Watershed Coordinator – Jeff Kremis
  • Neshannock Creek “Covered Bridge” Project - Aaron reviewed the Neshannock Creek access road and parking lot improvements due to Jeff’s absence. We replaced a 16 foot steel culvert with a 20 foot long corrugated plastic culvert that spanned the old railroad bed about ? mile from Covered Bridge Road. And we put lots of rock and small “topcoat” gravel at the beginning of the access road and the entrance to the parking lot to fill in holes. A new 12 foot long, locked gate was added at the entrance to the access road to keep fisherman from driving their vehicles down to the Neshannock Creek access points.

We did not complete the restoration of the parking lot entrance; so another workday will have to be scheduled to finish it. Bill Fay made a motion to re-hire the landscaper who helped us fill in the access road to complete the parking lot. Dick Natoli seconded the motion and it passed.

B. Nursery – Pete Anthony

  • Pete’s wish list – Tabled in the interest of saving time

  • Pete reported on the following items:
    • Nursery budget – It was about $960 for the fiscal year; they have spent about $560.
    • New Fish Commission policy on Fish Stocking – We cannot stock the same stream the same week as the Fish Commission stocks it and we have to notify the Commission two days prior to our stocking a stream.
    • Pine Run Stocking – This stream may be removed from our list by the commission.
    • Deer Creek Stocking – Thursday, April 29th
    • Recently purchased Power Generator – It does not have enough “surge power” available to start up the aerators used at the Munnell Run Nursery (need 1800 watts at startup). Pete talked to the store that sold Tom Jochman the equipment and they are willing to take it back and sell us a higher power alternative (Natoli to talk with Jochman).
    • Missing Electric Drill – Someone borrowed an electric drill from the Nursery; please let Pete know who has it, and when it will be returned

C. Cabin Fever / Banquet / Newsletter - Nick Loprire

  • Summary of 2004 banquet – The profits from this year’s banquet were very similar to last year.

  • Comments on 2005 banquet – Nick asked for ideas to increase our profits. Bob Shuey told Nick we should consider spending more money on “high Profile” entertainment in order to draw a larger crowd and make more money next year. Someone suggested a sports figure that is also a fisherman might fit the bill.

D. Membership – Tom Jochman

  • No report, Tom was absent

E. Youth Coordinator – Dick Rickert

  • Recover L.L. Bean equipment – Pete Anthony has the fly rod equipment purchased for youth events; five are available, and one is on loan (to be returned soon).
5. Wolf Creek - Dick Natoli:
  • Wolf creek signs – Four small signs regarding fishing regulations are already installed; one large sign will be built and placed at the entrance to the project. (Natoli to check on any leftover deck funds that may be applied to the cost of the large sign). Bill Fay made a motion to spend whatever is needed up to $1000 for the large sign. Aaron seconded the motion and it passed.

  • Article to John Siebert for web site and to PA Trout. – Nick already sent the article to John for our website. The article for PA TROUT magazine will include some digital photographs to be taken at the site, and will be written when Nick has time to do it.

  • Spring “Fishing Derby”- The date of May 22nd was selected for the Children under 12 and handicapped fishing derby. Natoli will coordinate the function with Jim Tidd of the Grove City Sportsman’s club. Advertising will be with the Sharon Herald and the Record Argost papers; Nick will write the article. Demonstrations suggested were fly casting (Nick’s foam ball and target), spin casting, and fish cleaning. We need suggestions for prizes.
6. Old Business:
  • Rivers Conservation & Fly Fishing Youth Camp – Aaron reported that John Bushanic would go to the event in case someone drops out; he will be an “alternate”.
7. New Business:
  • May 8th outing - Aaron reviewed the plans for the outing at Oil Creek

  • Planning – Natoli to e-mail food menu to Aaron

  • Cancellation policy – Will be put on the “Discussion Board” on the website if it is cancelled

  • Potter County – June5th weekend – Was only discussed briefly due to lack of time

  • New Board Member – Bill Fay made a motion that Bob Shuey be made a board member to fill out the unexpired term of Reg McClelland. Then we can elect him when Reg’s term expires in January 2006. Aaron seconded the motion and the motion passed. Aaron will talk to Bob Shuey about the appointment and welcome him to our board.

  • Coolspring Creek – Glory Hole Project – Pete Anthony proposed a project to remove “storm deposited rock” at the “Glory Hole”. He recommended we apply for a DEP permit to restore that portion of the stream to its original depth. He also proposed hiring Doug Pears to do the work with his Backhoe / Front End Loader equipment. Since Doug is a member of the Beagle Club it would show good cooperation and communication. Pete presented the motion, Bill Fay seconded it, and the motion passed.

  • Munnell Run Nursery Storage Shed – Pete reviewed the need to build a storage shed between the Girl Scout “raised rectangular gardens” and the Nursery building on the old cement pad nearby. The Nursery and the Girl Scouts would use it jointly. He recommended an 8-foot by 12-foot shed and Jim Mondok agreed that would be a good size. Aaron made a motion that Jim Mondok (thru the Mercer County Conservation District) propose a building and sketch the plan for us. Dick Rickert seconded and the motion passed.
