Select a nice shaped feather for the hackle. The barbs should be as long as the hook or close to it. Also remember you are going to wrap the hackle only two or three time before tying it off. When you have selected your hackle strip all the fluff off and tie it in with the dull side down. It only takes 2-3 wraps of thread to hold it in place.
