Annual Chapter Outing at Oil Creek
|
|
As customary the Chapter’s Saturday outing at Oil Creek State Park will be held the day before Mother’s Day, Saturday May 8th. The timing should coincide with the green caddis hatch if Mother Nature cooperates. Let’s just hope we don’t get rained out. There will NOT be a rain date.
We meet at Shelter #1 at Petroleum Center in Oil Creek State Park. Someone will be there around 7:30 am with coffee and donuts if you don’t want to jump in the stream right away. At 11:30am or so begin to wander back to the shelter for a picnic lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, soft drinks, etc. You won’t go hungry. Once all the fishing lies ... uh, stories have been told you’re free to fish till your kitchen pass runs out.
Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can plan for food. You can call Jeff Kremis at (724.588.4378) or Nick Loprire (330.638.2982). Remember, if the rains come, check with Oil Creek Fly Shop the day before or call Saturday morning before leaving. They are also on the web.

Congratulations to all who attended this years banquet as they made it one of the best in of all time. A great crowd mix, food, prizes, and atmosphere made for a special evening enjoyed by all. Chuck Moxley and Kevin Compton wowed the crowd with there unique flies and tying styles. The resultant box of their flies went for a tidy sum at auction. Somewhere north of $225 I believe. George Leschinsky, a long time attendee, was the $350 winner of our 50/50 raffle. Dave Wynkoop won the Orvis Helios rod and held the winning ticket for the Bamboo rod for Paul Williamson. Paul couldn’t attend due to recent surgery. I guess the notice of winning that rod got Paul thinking he would heal as faster than he first thought; wouldn’t want the use of his new rod to be delayed any more than necessary. I’m sure he will be pushing his doctor for “an early release”. Way to go Paul. Special thanks go out to Chris Lantzy for building the fine Bamboo rod specifically for our Chapter.
We had approximately 179 attendees this year and all enjoyed great food and drink at the Radisson. The revenue this year was over $14,500 and we enjoyed a net profit of over $6,000. Some bills may yet need paid but over all it will be the best banquet ever. Thanks to all who attended. We had many compliments from our guests and we plan to do it again next year, same place and we plan to make it even better.
